The ladies of Lichfield are officially saying goodbye to minimum security as we get our first look at season six of "Orange is the New Black." With a cover of Fiona Apple's hit song "Criminal" blasting throughout the 2:21 trailer, audiences learn the fate of many of the inmates and what they've been up to since that crazy season five finale.
The video opens with a Department of Federal Corrections bus pulling up to Lichfield Max. The inmates are getting acquainted with their new rooming assignments as well as bunkmates, none looking too content.
"Wait, this isn't home," Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) says while looking around her new cell in a panic. "This is not home."
A guard responds, "It is now."
Gloria Mendoza (Selenis Leyva) will have more than a few choice words about many things going on in Max, especially since things don't seem to be working smoothly for her. The same could be said for Gloria's sometimes rival Maria Ruiz (Jessica Pimentel) who is also struggling to adjust to life outside of minimum security.
Things eventually, get heated between Mendoza and Ruiz and finally, boil over into a physical altercation. The alpha females battle it out, which is unfortunate since neither really need the extra time added to their sentences.
It's a shame these two strong-minded women, going through very similar life struggles, couldn't be friends. But when you're in a dog-eat-dog world known as the prison system, it's really every woman for herself.
Crazy Eyes says it best in the trailer, "Navigating adult female friendships are so complicated."
Daya Diaz (Dascha Polanco) also pops-up and she potentially has a new love interest during season six. Drama in her life doesn't seem to have calmed down much either. Her mother Aleida (Elizabeth Rodriguez) comes for a visit only to be left raging and crying from the freedom side of the reinforced glass visitors window.
One of the saddest moments from the trailer is catching a glimpse of Flaca (Jackie Diaz) sans her partner in crime Marisol (Diane Guerrero). What will become of the former without the latter?
"Orange is the New Black" returns to Netflix on July 27.
